Learn a new program or brush up on your skills with a computer class from The Training Place (Formerly known as NewTec). Our computer lab can host up to 10 students and will provide you with the hands-on learning experience needed to help you understand and navigate the program with ease. Commonly requested computer classes are listed below and come with a book to keep.

• Microsoft Word - 4 hours
• Microsoft Publisher - 6 hours
• Microsoft Powerpoint - 8 hours
• Microsoft Office Basic - 8 hours
• Microsoft Access - 16 hours (beginner and intermediate classes available)
• QuickBooks - 16 hours (an intensive 2-day course complete with book and trial software)

Our Commercial Drivers License training offers both a classroom portion that prepares students to take the permit test  and a hands-on behind the wheel one-on-one driving training that prepares the student to take the driving test. Options for instruction include:

• 20 hours of one-on-one driving with 12 hours of classroom
• 30 hours of one-on-one driving with 12 Hours of classroom
• 12 hours of classroom training only
• 20 hours of driving training only
• 30 hours of driving training only
• Ask about hazardous materials, doubles, triples and tanker endorsement training

We now offer a blue print reading class for the manufacturing industry in cooperation with Mitchell Technical Institute. This class will cover manufacturing prints with the corresponding symbols. This eight-hour class is offered onsite at The Training Place via video conference.

The Training Place (Formerly known as NewTec) currently offers a variety of welding training options. 

1. 40-hour basic wirefeed welding. This class is offered monthly and generally held in the evenings.

2. The Training Place offers training, procedures, testing and welder/operator qualifications in mild steel, aluminum, stainless and carbon pipe. Training and certification is generally held weekdays and by appointment.

3. VRTEX virtual welding training. Virtual welding is a cost effective option for training because it doesn't include the costly inputs in normal "arcs and sparks" training. The Training Place will make available the virtual welder to be used in school classrooms or businesses. Call for more information.

Approved by the SD Board of Nursing, this program offers 40 hours of online classroom training and 35 hours of skills and clinical training for Certified Nursing Assistant candidates. Upon completion of the course, participants will test to receive their CNA certification for SD.
